About EducationUSA Academy Connects

EducationUSA Academy Connects is an online short-term pre-college academic enrichment program hosted by select U.S. colleges and universities for 15 to 17 year-old international students with intermediate or advanced English.  The Academy provides valuable skills and experiences, helping students strengthen their college applications.  During the program, candidates will: 

  • Meet and speak with representatives, professors, and students from the universities offering the selected program
  • Practice their English language skills in an academic field. (Please note this is not an English course.)
  • Receive an introduction to careers in STEM areas, leadership, and workforce skills development
  • Develop an academic network
  • Understand the academic context in the United States and the opportunities offered for international high school students

U.S. Embassy in Mexico is providing full scholarships for online programs offered by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or University Wisconsin–Madison focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for a select number of students.  Details regarding the university programs, eligibility, and the application process are below.

About the Programs

Scholarships will cover the fees to participate in the online programs offered by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or University Wisconsin–Madison focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as follows:  

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) provides academic English instruction, general aviation English (in topics such as general aviation, radio telephony, and human factors), and information about the U.S. university system for international students. Click here for more information:

  • Schedule: July 12 to August 4, 2022
    • Tuesdays, 7:00 am – 9:00 am CDT
    • Wednesdays, 7:00 am – 8:30 am CDT
    • Thursdays, 7:00 am – 8:30 am CDT


University Wisconsin–Madison (UW-Madison) – Session 2 allows students to investigate their own interests, values, and skills through interactive activities, as well as explore the dynamic world of STEM careers and trends. They will learn about accomplished scientists’ and professionals’ success stories and become acquainted with the many ways to navigate STEM at UW-Madison. This course will also include talks with UW-Madison STEM experts. Click here for more information:

    • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm CDT
Eligible Applicants 

All applicants must:

  • Be 15 – 17 years old on June 1, 2022
  • Be a current high school student enrolled in a public or private institution in Mexico
  • Be a Mexican citizen (candidates with other nationalities, dual U.S. and Mexican citizens, or U.S. resident status are ineligible)
  • Intend to pursue higher education and a career in a STEM-related field
  • Demonstrate a high academic profile by:
    • minimum grade point average (promedio) of 8.5
    • recognitions, awards, honors, and/or participation in extracurricular activities in STEM fields
  • Demonstrate at least B1 English proficiency by any of the following:
    • A letter from an English teacher stating that the student possesses an intermediate level of English and is able to communicate fluently in English. 
    • A current or expired English certification, for example TOEFL ITP (500 points), TOEFL IBT (61 points), IELTS (5), Duolingo English Test (60 points), or other. 
  • Have a computer, laptop, or tablet with a webcam and stable internet connection

Select one of the programs offered at ERAU or UW-Madison and be committed and able to participate in the entire program. Please review the universities, dates, and times in the “About the Programs” section.  Full participation is mandatory.

Application Process

By May 25 at 11:59 pm (CDT) complete this form. Make sure to upload the following documents:  

  • Passport or CURP (download it here)
  • High school unofficial transcript issued after January 2022. It must include all high school courses completed, grades obtained, and grade average.
  • Proof of your English language level (upload your language certification)
  • A CV in English, you can review Please include your current or recent participation in extracurricular activities. Note that activities in STEM fields are desired.
  • A 1-minute video or a short essay (maximum 300 words) in English. You must: 1) introduce yourself, 2) explain why you are interested in STEM fields, and 3) describe why you would like to participate in the selected program.  
  • A letter of recommendation in English or Spanish from a teacher or mentor highlighting your academic performance, as well as your abilities, strengths, and qualifications for this scholarship.  (optional)
